RESTORATIVE DENTISTRY
What is Restorative Dentistry?
Restorative dentistry is any dental treatment that repairs or replaces a tooth. This can range from small problems like tooth discoloration and cavity fillings to more invasive procedures like root canals.
Our ultimate objective is to restore the function as well as the appearance of your teeth so you feel more comfortable and confident. If you want to restore the health and beauty of your smile, contact us at Sky Dental Clinic to schedule an appointment with Dr. Mike Truong today.
Composite Dental Fillings
Dental fillings are used to fill holes or cavities in the tooth which can be easily identified through x-rays that are performed during your regular check-ups and cleanings. Composite dental fillings are white fillings used to fill cavities and offer a much more natural tooth appearance in comparison to traditional amalgam fillings, which are noticeably silver.
While it’s important to have cavities filled, these fillings shouldn’t detract from your confidence and impede the appearance of your smile. Composite resin fillings chemically bond to your tooth's enamel, sealing any holes and offering more support. These fillings offer the best match to your natural tooth color and require less of your tooth's structure to be removed in comparison to amalgam fillings.
Anterior & Posterior Crowns
The teeth in the front of your mouth are known as anterior teeth, while the teeth in the back are posterior teeth. Dental crowns act as "caps" that go over the teeth to cover cracked or damaged natural teeth. They also provide the teeth with an additional layer of protection after a procedure like a root canal.
We offer dental crowns in the following materials:
Zirconia
Gold
Porcelain
You may want to give the material of your anterior dental crowns more consideration than your posterior teeth since these are the most visible teeth in your mouth. For this reason, people tend to prefer porcelain crowns that closely resemble natural teeth in appearance and color.
Root Canal Therapy
Root canals, contrary to popular belief, are painless procedures that can restore comfort to your mouth by removing the damaged pulp (soft center of your tooth) from your tooth. The pulp can become damaged as a result of inflammation or infection and will not be fully repaired until the pulp is scraped out.
This procedure is usually performed in 2 or 3 separate appointments, but the first one will relieve your tooth pain as we clear out the damaged pulp and clean your canals. The following appointments will consist of filling the tooth and sealing the access hole.
Root canals are done as a last resort and we will take every other measure available before resorting to it. However, root canals can save your tooth from extraction. Losing a tooth increases your risk of other tooth problems because your teeth will shift and it is easier for bacteria to get into the space where your tooth was.
Lab-Made Bridges
Dental bridges are similar to crowns but differ in that they can replace one or several missing teeth by securing crowns to the backs of your natural teeth and are cemented into place. Your dentist will prepare your teeth and take impressions of your mouth and send them to an outside lab.
This lab will take the impressions of your teeth to design a mold that perfectly matches the size, shape, and color of your natural teeth. After 1-2 weeks, your custom lab-made dental bridge will be ready to be placed in your mouth and any additional adjustments can be made to ensure a proper fit.
When it comes to restoration work, time is of the essence. Having damaged, cracked, or decayed teeth will not improve on its own. The sooner you get these dental problems treated, the better the outcome is for your teeth. Contact Sky Dental to reserve an appointment today.
